Princess Beatrice has given birth to her second child, named Athena, Buckingham Palace has announced. Athena was born several weeks prematurely and weighed 4lb 5oz, but is said to be healthy and doing well.

Countess Athena, now aged 15, is the daughter of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie. She is currently ninth in line to the Danish throne and is the youngest grandchild of Queen Margrethe.

Athena’s arrival will place Beatrice’s younger sister, Princess Eugenie, back one place to 12th in line. Eugenie’s children, August (born in February 2021) and Ernest (born in May 2023) will be pushed back to 13th and 14th place respectively.
