A fire was raging Thursday afternoon at a gas station in the west Chicago suburb of Berwyn. A column of flames was spewing from the BP station at the northeast corner of Ogden and Oak Park avenues late in the afternoon.

A Berwyn gas station exploded Thursday afternoon after a downed power line struck the site just moments after a storm rolled through the area.

The gas station market on Ogden and Oak Park avenues exploded into flames as high as 20 feet and was destroyed, according to witnesses. No one was injured in the afternoon blast, said Berwyn Ald. Micah Caldwell, 1st. The fire had been contained by Thursday evening, but was not extinguished.
