The University of Arizona apologized after a portion of the team’s fanbase sang an “unacceptable chant” directed towards Brigham Young University (BYU) following the Wildcats’ men’s basketball team’s defeat at the hands of the Cougars on Saturday.

Arizona’s loss to BYU this past weekend still stings for head coach Tommy Lloyd, but for more than what happened on the court. Immediately following the Cougars’ dramatic one-point victory, Arizona’s student section began a profane chant directed at members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as BYU players headed to the locker room.

Usually the apologies include a line in them, as did the one scratched out by Arizona vice president/athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois, saying: “The chant is not reflectiv
