US lawmakers who helped secure billions of dollars in subsidies for domestic semiconductor manufacturing rejected President Donald Trump’s call to revoke the 2022 Chips Act, signaling that any repeal effort in Congress would fall short.

It’s not clear to lawmakers what the president thinks should happen to a “horrible, horrible” law — or if changing it is politically possible.

The president’s comments are on the heels of Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC committing $165 billion to U.S. facilities.
