Ford has introduced a fully electric NASCAR prototype inspired by the Mustang Mach-E. The model features a tri-motor powertrain and several parts from the current NASCAR racer. Ford Performance has also published a teaser of an upcoming Mach-E Pikes Peak racer.

Hybrids still haven't come to NASCAR and an electric race car for the series might seem even farther off, but Ford is still thinking about it.

Besides the silhouette, the Mach-E prototype eschews a decklid spoiler for a huge rear wing. As strange as it may look, we do have to give credit to Ford and NASCAR for delivering a body that legitimately looks similar to a standard Mustang Mach-E.

Ford on Thursday showed what its Mustang Mach-E electric SUV might look like as a NASCAR race car. The prototype is designed to look like a Mach-E, but is actually built around a carbon-fiber tub chassis with components from a current NASCAR Cup Series car, including the suspension, brakes, steering, and wheels, Ford said in a brief statement.
