NATO member Finland plans to quit a global convention banning anti-personnel landmines and boost defense spending to at least 3% of GDP by 2029 in response to the evolving military threat from Russia,

Finland’s government plans to raise the country’s defense spending to 3% of economic output by 2029 to address the risks from a more aggressive Russia, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said.

"This is a part of Finland's contribution to Europe taking greater responsibility for our own defense," Finnish President Alexander Stubb posted on X.
