Texas is facing its largest measles outbreak in nearly 30 years, with 124 confirmed cases as of February 25, 2025. The outbreak, which started in late January, has been most severe in Gaines County, where 80 cases have been recorded. The virus has also spread to eight other counties, and cases have also been reported in Lea County, New Mexico.

Just five of the 124 cases of measles Texas state health officials confirmed last week were in individuals who were vaccinated, and Texas has one of the lowest vaccination rates of any state in the country.
