A suspect was charged with a hate crime for a November attack on two Jewish students who were demonstrating in support of Israel at Chicago's DePaul University, the university and local officials said on Thursday.

Adam Erkan, 20, of Hoffman Estates, has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery and two counts of hate crime.

Schumer, the top Jewish elected official in the U.S., said statements "raise serious concerns about antisemitic motivation."

The Democratic leader said the timing of the attack, which took place during Passover, and “the context of rising antisemitism globally and across the country” bring up “serious concerns about antisemitic motivation.
