Marcelo Gomes da Silva's arrest sparked an outcry from Massachusetts officials and the Mildford community where he has lived since he came to the United States in 2012.

Authorities have said the agents were looking for the Milford High School teen's father, who owns the car Gomes da Silva was driving at the time and had parked in a friend’s driveway.

Nearly 1,500 people have been detained in Massachusetts by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the last month, the agency said Monday. ICE acting director Todd Lyons told reporters at a news conference in Boston that 1,461 people have been hauled into custody since Operation Patriot began in May.
