SAN DIEGO — Juan Soto is out of action in San Diego.

The Mets opened their series with the Padres on the wrong side of a walk-off single on Monday night, which snapped a seven-game win streak. They entered Tuesday night with a 62-45 record, which leads the NL East standings. The Padres held a 1-0 lead when Soto left the game, thanks to an RBI single from Jackson Merrill in the first inning.

The Mets will cross their fingers that Soto won’t be out for an extended amount of time after he smashed a foul ball off his left, back foot in the fourth inning of the Mets’ 7-1 loss to the Padres at Petco Park.
