Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe signed an executive order on Tuesday to eliminate state agencies’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs.Executive Order 25-18 bars the use of state funds for DEI and stops agencies from considering DEI in hiring decisions.

The order directs all state agencies to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. It also bars state funds from going toward such programs.

The order takes effect immediately and gives any group receiving state money 90 days to comply. The order references a 2023 U.S. Supreme Court case in which the court’s six conservative justices ruled that colleges and universities violated the Equal Protection clause of the Constitution’s 14th Amendment by considering race in admissions.
