Tropical Storm Cosme is expected to weaken through Thursday morning. Both storms are being tracked through the eastern Pacific Ocean, off the coast of southwestern Mexico, according to the NHC.
Tropical Storm Alvin has sustained winds of over 39 mph and became the first named storm of 2025 in the Northern Hemisphere.
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two tropical waves in the Atlantic: Tropical wave 1: A tropical wave located at 37W from 02N-12N in the central Atlantic is moving west at 11 mph. Tropical wave 2: A central Atlantic tropical wave east of the Caribbean Sea has its axis along 57W south of 17N, is moving west at 11 to 17 mph.
The storms are expected to become weaker in the coming days, but another tropical depression is forecasted to form later in the week.
Tropical Storm Alvin was located about 670 miles (1,080 kilometers) south-southeast of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula of Mexico, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said.
Hurricane Barbara and Tropical Storm Cosme mark the second and third named storms of the Eastern Pacific hurricane season.
