With its three movie commitment ending with Reed Richards and company hitting the box office, that Fantastic Four: First Steps Silver Surfer reveal is giving fans a lot to mull over before its July debut.

In First Steps, Garner plays Shalla-Bal, the immortal empress of the plant Zenn-La and Norrin’s lover. In the comics, Norrin becomes the Silver Surfer after becoming the herald of Galactus in exchange for him sparing their planet. The sacrifice meant the lovers were separated for eternity.

Like the Marvel comics, Shalla-Bal is the herald of Galactus, a planet-devouring behemoth who is voiced by Ralph Ineson in the movie. She’s covered from head to toe in shiny silver and flies around on a cosmic surfboard, which means Garner had to do motion capture for the first time in her career.
