The Department of Justice says it is reviewing the prosecution of former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters. It's latest move by the Trump administration to use its power to reward allies who violated the law on the president's behalf.

Federal officials said the review will evaluate whether Peters’ prosecution was “oriented more toward inflicting political pain than toward pursuing actual justice or legitimate government

The Department of Justice has opened an investigation into the trial of former Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters. Peters was sentenced October 2024 to nine years behind bars after a jury found her guilty on seven counts.
