Violent crime in D.C. has hit a 30-year low, according to data from the Metropolitan Police Department presented by Attorney General Mathrew Graves.

According to the city, homicides dropped 19% in 2024 from the previous year's 57-year-low and are down 33% since 2002. Detroit had 203 homicides in 2024 compared to 252 in 2023. It marks the fewest homicides in the city since 1965.

The Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves have announced that violent crime in Washington, D.C., has reached its lowest levels in over three decades, thanks to a strategy focused on dismantling criminal crews and implementing Project Safe Neighborhoods.

The number of homicides fell to 203 last year, down from 252 in 2023 — a 19% decline to the lowest rate in more than 50 years. Nonfatal shootings saw a 25% year-over decline, down to 606 in 2024 from 804 the year prior.
