MERRIAM, Kan. — Merriam City Council voted 6-2 Monday night to allow only American flags to fly at the city’s “Flags 4 Freedom” event around the Independence Day holiday beginning this year.

If you had done your due diligence, when it comes to the "thin blue line" flag, there is much controversy regarding it. Many, including myself, see this flag as a "us” vs. “them” mentality.

The flags that recently came down had a solid black background split by a thin line — one of them red, in support of the fire department, and the other blue, in support of law enforcement.
