Greek lawmakers have elected a former parliament speaker and leading advocate for the return of the disputed Parthenon sculptures from the British Museum as the country's new president.

Talks concerning the return of the Parthenon marbles are "ongoing and constructive," according to a spokesperson.

A spokesperson for the Parthenon Project campaign group says: “We need a forward-looking, mutually beneficial agreement, in the form of a cultural partnership between Greece and Britain.
