It’s typical to see about a third of the contestants sent home on Night 1. Joey Graziadei eliminated 10 of his starting 32 in Season 28, and before him, Zach Shallcross sent 10 of 30 home. Grant Ellis started with fewer women and therefore didn’t have quite as many Night 1 goodbyes.

Grant Ellis’s season of The Bachelor finally premiered on ABC tonight. And let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised by the season 29 contenders. As I was watching the premiere episode, I immediately noticed something interesting about the contestants’ ages when compared to past seasons.

The Season 29 premiere of The Bachelor kicked off Monday night with its usual introduction to the new leading man, a 30-year-old day trader from Houston, Texas. Bachelor Nation first met Grant when he was vying for Jenn Tran’s heart on Season 21 of The Bachelorette and, while that love story didn’t work out, Grant is ready to give it another go.
