The American bank JPMorgan is among those who have failed in court to convince Belgium to release funds or assets, which are caught up in sanctions imposed because of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Brussels has announced plans to acquire 34 of the F-35s, which will replace its aging fleet of F-16 Fighting Falcons by the end of the decade.

In addition to procuring more F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, Belgium will acquire A400M freighters, a helicopter fleet, and armed drones. In light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, NATO members have beefed up their defense budgets in order to ensure the international alliance’s deterrence and defense capabilities.
