Illinois will introduce digital IDs by the end of the year, streamlining identification processes for residents.

The Illinois Secretary of State’s office is developing a digital driver’s license and state identification program for use on iPhones and Apple watches, with the goal to launch by the end of 2025. A new law that went into effect Jan. 1 enabled the office to begin developing the program.

After legislation took effect Jan. 1, the Secretary of State’s Office will work with the technology company to let users add their driver’s license or state ID to the Wallet. A sign-up page for interested Illinoisans has been set up.
