After a five-month closure due to Hurricane Helene, a 12-mile stretch of I-40 near the Tennessee border will reopen on Saturday.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation said a four-mile stretch of Interstate 40 on the North Carolina/Tennessee border will reopen Saturday, albeit at a slower speed with just one lane in each direction.

It said the first crash was reported at around 4:39 p.m. Eastern Time, blocking a northbound lane of Interstate 75 in Loudon County, before the exit to Highway 321. That crash caused delays backing up almost to the Loudon Highway exit.
