In a statement, PETA also alleges Kamea is the 45th orca to die in SeaWorld’s care since the parks' founding. She is the second aquatic mammal to die in SeaWorld San Antonio’s care since 2024.

SeaWorld San Antonio still has Kamen's mother, Takara, 33, her sister, Sakari, 15, and two male orcas in captivity. Over the decades, animal activists continued to put pressure on SeaWorld.

At eight years old, Kamea was the youngest orca of the five in the pod, according to SeaWorld San Antonio. She is survived by Takara, age 31, Kyuquot, age 30, Tuar, age 23, and Sakari, age 12.
