Atlantic hurricane season is about to hit its stride. August through mid-September is historically the most active stretch of the season, and while there have been a handful of short-lived named storms,

Tropical Storm Dexter, the fourth named system of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, formed late Sunday night well east of North Carolina. The system is now moving away from the U.S. East Coast, posing no land threat, but it signals a shift toward more frequent tropical development in the Atlantic.

As we enter August, the Atlantic Hurricane Season really begins to ramp up. The National Hurricane Center says on average, 86% of named storms happen after August 2.
