A fire broke out in Liberty County Jail that forced inmates to be evacuated from part of the facility. According to Captain David Meyers with Liberty County, the fire started at around 9:20 p.m.

In an update, the sheriff's office said a light fixture, not inmates, had started the fire, sending five officers to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Just over a month after a riot at the Liberty County Jail, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fire at the facility.
