WASHINGTON — Canada's Leylah Fernandez defeated Russian Anna Kalinskaya 6-1, 6-2 for her fourth career WTA title at the Citi Open hardcourt tennis tournament on Sunday. Fernandez's last title came at Hong Kong in October 2023.
Left-hander Leylah Fernandez knocked out the world No. 4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, to reach the quarterfinals in Washington, D.C. on Thursday evening. The Canadian wiped away an early break in the decider, before beating Pegula to the finish line when her opponent’s forehand clipped the tape and sailed wide on the first match point of the day.
