Seven individuals were arrested by Odisha police after an Army officer and his fiancée were reportedly assaulted by miscreants. The government has suspended five police officials and called for a judicial probe into the matter.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, former Army chief general (retired) VK Singh and several others reacted strongly to the alleged torture of an Indian Army officer and “sexual assault” of his fiancée inside a police station in Odisha's Bhubaneswar.

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Saturday said the recent "sexual assault" incident at Bharatpur Police Station was being "politicised" and asserted that those found guilty would not be spared.

The Odisha Police Association has urged the immediate withdrawal of suspension orders for five policemen allegedly involved in the torture of an Army officer and the sexual harassment of his fiancée.

The Odisha Police Crime Branch has registered a case against five police officers for the alleged sexual assault of an army officer's fiancee in custody. The alleged incident has sparked a political row with the BJD and Congress slamming the BJP.

The arrested individuals include Rakesh Naik, Abhilash Sawant, Aman Kumar, Aditya Ranjan Behra, Akash Padhiyari, Harish Manta, and Ashish Kumar. The investigation is ongoing.

Speaking to reporters, he said the BJP government in the state has already suspended five police personnel for their alleged involvement in the incident

Rahul Gandhi said that crimes against women have become completely uncontrolled and unbridled under the BJP government.

Congress leaders condemned the Odisha incident involving the alleged assault of an army man and his fiancée, demanding accountability and justice.
