Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Rangers to investigate two controversial lottery jackpots amid growing scrutiny over the role of online ticketing firms in the state.

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is investigating a lottery store in Austin that sold the $83.5 million winning lottery ticket for Wednesday's drawing.  The prize was the fifth biggest jackpot in the history of the game,

The Texas Lottery Commission’s executive director said Monday he would move to ban couriers from buying lottery tickets after finding that state law bars the practice, an about-face from the agency’s yearslong claim it had no control over such third-party sales.
