A fire broke out in Liberty County Jail that forced inmates to be evacuated from part of the facility. According to Captain David Meyers with Liberty County, the fire started at around 9:20 p.m.

After a fire sent five correctional officers to the hospital, ABC13 dug into the jail's past and found safety concerns inside the facility.

In an update, the sheriff's office said a light fixture, not inmates, had started the fire, sending five officers to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Details have been released about how the fire at Liberty County Jail originated on Monday, causing five correctional officers to be hospitalized.
