The infectious gastrointestinal virus has swept through the Queen Mary 2, flagship vessel of Cunard Line, affecting more than 230 people during a return voyage across the Atlantic.

U.S. health officials said 224 passengers and 17 crew on board the Cunard cruise ship Queen Mary 2 caught norovirus during a voyage that's still ongoing.

More than 225 people got sick in norovirus outbreaks on Cunard Line and Seabourn ships. Among 2,538 guests on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2, 183 reported being ill during its current voyage, along with 14 crew members,

A 29-day round-trip cruise from England to the Caribbean aboard the Queen Mary 2 luxury liner turned into an ordeal for 224 passengers and 17 crew members who reported becoming ill.

Over 200 passengers and crew members aboard a still-at-sea Cunard cruise ship have contracted norovirus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The ship departed Southampton, England on March 8 bound for New York City and then the Caribbean.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 224 of the 2,538 passengers on the ship have fallen ill, while 17 of the 1,232 crew members are also unwell. Norovirus is a "highly contagious infection" that is spread through contaminated food and water,
