Candidates to succeed Thomas Bach as president of the International Olympic Association have outlined their views on transgender athletes competing against women and in the Olympic Games, an issue that was the subject of an executive order issued by U.

Whether to allow transgender women to compete in women's sports already was a key debate among Olympic leaders before U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order that puts pressure on them before the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.

Even before the president’s executive order, Olympic officials were moving toward more exclusive eligibility for women’s sports.
