The finds that we have indicate that there is the Temple of Aphrodite in this region. It is not common to find a temple during a surface survey. The area was not within reach by car.

Iris Love, who has died aged 86 after being diagnosed with COVID-19, was a passionate archaeologist, her greatest contribution being her role in the discovery of the Temple of Aphrodite in 1969.

As early as 615BC, Aphrodite had a small temple on the site. The use of her epithet Pandemos here likely refers to the many groups of foreigners who came together amicably in this business centre.
