US Agency for International Development staff around the world will be placed on administrative leave Friday and ordered to return to the US, according to a directive issued Tuesday night.

A day after the Trump administration moved to shut down the USAID agency, the State Department has begun helping recall all USAID staffers who are on foreign assignment.

In a brief note posted on the international development agency's website, almost all employees were told they would be put on leave. The note ended with the words, "Thank you for your service."
