Autism incidence in the U.S. has increased from 1 in 36 children in 2020 to 1 in 31 in 2022, according to a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday. The Hearst Television Data Team delved into the report to provide context behind the numbers.

Boatwright isn't alone. The CDC released data this week showing one in 31 children will be diagnosed with autism by the age of 8. The rate is almost five times as high as it was in 2000. That's when the agency first started collecting data.
