Texas Gov. Greg Abbott claims to be all about “America First,” so why is he threatening to punish a city in his state for insufficient loyalty to Israel?

The City of San Marcos has drawn the ire of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who says that a proposed resolution concerning Israel and Palestine seems "calculated" to violate Texas law.

Gov. Greg Abbott wrote a letter to the mayor of San Marcos as its council prepares to vote on a Gaza ceasefire resolution. Abbott said the measure was "antisemitic" and "anti-Texas."

In response to the lawsuit, UT Austin spokesperson Mike Rosen referred to statements the university made after the arrests saying it acted to preserve campus safety, enforce protest rules, and that most arrests were of people from outside the university.

The lawsuit, filed by four current and former UT students, alleges that the school mishandled the pro-Palestine protests last spring.
