In the 87th Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2025, R Praggnanandhaa won his sixth game, Arjun Erigaisi secured his first victory, and Gukesh settled for a draw. Highlights included Praggnanandhaa's win over Alexey Sarana and Abdusattorov's defeat by Erigaisi.

It was the second time at the tournament that Gukesh beat one of his seconds for the 2024 FIDE World Championship. He had earlier beaten Vincent Keymer, and now Harikrishna, who played one of Ding Liren's staple opening - the French.
