HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) -- Indiana State Police have opened a criminal investigation after seeing a video of a dog being transported in an open trailer. In the video, which parked outrage on social media, the dog is in a crate on that trailer, which is attached to an SUV.

After launching an investigation, a state trooper was able to find the SUV and the dog, who had been abandoned outside a home in Gary. Police said it appeared the dog had been abandoned near a home where the vehicle’s owner once lived.
