The San Jose Sharks and the Dallas Stars have secured a deal that will benefit both teams and their future success. The Sharks are sending star forward Mikael Granlund and defenceman Cody Ceci to Dallas.

The San Jose Sharks traded Erik Karlsson to the Pittsburgh Penguins nearly 18 months ago, and it’s continuing to bear fruit. The Sharks have since turned that trade, and the one involving waiver claim Ty Emberson last summer, into prospect defenseman Sam Dickinson and three more picks in this year’s draft, including a first-rounder.

The Sharks’ loss to Seattle marked the sixth time in the last seven games that they have given up three goals or more in a single period. To put that into more context, in January, 20 of the 32 teams managed to hold opposing teams, on average, to under three goals per game.
