While President Donald Trump has threatened to punish local law enforcement if they do not help carry out mass deportations, some have said they still won’t comply. In Texas, though, that hasn’t really been an option since mid-2017.

In a series of executive orders Wednesday, Gov. Greg Abbott ordered state agencies to cooperate with President Donald Trump’s mass deportation efforts and directed the state’s criminal justice agency to identify land and facilities that could be used for detaining and deporting undocumented migrants.

The president’s made-for-TV showmanship has been all over his first days in office, as he has sought to kick off the country’s largest mass deportation effort.
