Ikon pass ski itinerary recommendations requested - Rick Steves
Nov 18, 2023 · Best location in the Dolomites is somewhere on the Sella Ronda circuit, Selva, Corvara, Canazei, and Arabba. Arabba and Canazei are not easily accessible, but Selva and Corvara by frequent bus service from rail lines. Cortina is 2nd rate as far as skiing goes. 3 ski areas not interconnected, whereas The Sella circuit has amazing interconnectivity.
Dolomites, Venice & Florence in Dec. / Jan. - Rick Steves Travel …
Jul 5, 2023 · The Dolomites villages are all basically ski resorts, and hotels will be pricy over the Christmas and New Years’ holidays. And some will have minimum stay requirements of 3 to 7 nights. For example, Hotel Seelaus on Alpe di Siusi ( which is or at least was Rick’s recommended hotel) has a one-week minimum stay around that time, costing € ...
Family ski trip over Christmas in Dolomites or Alps
Sep 12, 2018 · I suspect the ski resorts will not be in bargain mode over the Holidays, when everyone who skis will be trying to do so. Unless you have FF miles for the air fare, I have doubts you can do it within the budget you gave. If you want to ski in a foreign country, Whistler may be a better choice to fit your budget.( and its only one time zone ...
Planning a ski trip to the Dolomites - Rick Steves Travel Forum
May 18, 2022 · Skied the dolomites several times. Cortina, Canazei, Selva (twice), Madonna di Campiglio (twice). Selva is hands down my favorite. It is on the Sella Ronda ski circuit. A little more difficult to reach from Venice airport. Bus (or taxi) to Venice Mestre train station, then train to Verona, change to train to Bolzano, change to a bus to Selva.
Dolomites in early Spring? - Rick Steves Travel Forum
Oct 19, 2009 · For myself, I would say no. I love the Dolomites---the scenery is gorgeous and unique. But April is really a "down" time. We were in the area (Venice) in April 2003, and I really wanted to see the Dolomites again. But after considering all the information, we decided to go to Lago di Garda (much lower elevation)instead.
Sledge and ski in Pyrenees vs Dolomites - Rick Steves
Dec 18, 2022 · We are hoping to spend a week skiing and sledging and a week visiting the area. We like to do activities (ice skate, recreation centers, hiking, excursions, etc.) versus visiting museums and walking around/ambiance. We are considering price as well and have heard the Dolomites can be pricey, but we are good with an air b&b and cooking at home.
Where to stay in Dolomites - Rick Steves Travel Forum
Dec 21, 2022 · We had a 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment with a full kitchen. It was well appointed and so clean and very reasonably priced, with daily housekeeping. The hotel has a full wellness area with sauna and steam baths. It was super close to one of the chair lifts to take up to hike/ski. I highly recommend it and we want to stay there again soon!
Dolomites by train - Rick Steves Travel Forum
Oct 27, 2019 · There are lots of lifts to get to higher elevations, but I'm not sure what will be running during the time period of your trip. I think it's common for alpine lifts to close for maintenance between ski season and hiking season. This website has links to schedules for buses into the Val Gardena, though only the current schedules seem to be posted.
Dolomites Ski Trip - Car needed? - Rick Steves Travel Forum
Nov 27, 2023 · We would also need to either leave our bags in a hotel we will be staying at later on or in our car. If anyone has experience skiing in the dolomites and can recommend the best way to get around that would be fantastic! We are hoping to ski the hidden valley, do the sella ronda, and would like to be on the sella ronda for easy access. Itinerary ...
Dolomites in late April? - Rick Steves Travel Forum
Oct 18, 2023 · April is not a great time. The #11 definitely does not run that early and most hotels I am familiar with are shuttered between the end of ski season and June 1 or so. You could settle in Castelrotto or Bolzano and enjoy the spring weather. Merano is another nice option.
