Gasconade County is a county located in the east-central portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,794. [1] . The county seat has been Hermann since 1842. [2] . The county was named after the Gasconade River.

Gasconade is a city in Gasconade County, Missouri. The population is 172 as of the 2020 census. [5] Gasconade was the original county seat of Gasconade County, Missouri. The city was platted in 1857. It is situated at the mouth of the Gasconade River, from which it takes its name. [6]

Gasconade County is situated in the east central part of Missouri, and is bounded as follows: On the north by Montgomery and Warren Counties, separated from them by the Missouri River ; on the east by Franklin County ; on the south by Crawford and Phelps Counties, and on the west by Maries and Osage Counties.

The county seat was moved here in 1825 when Gasconade City, the first county seat, was flooded. In 1828 Bartonsville was flooded, and the county seat was moved to Mt. Sterling. Spelled Bartonville in HISTORY OF FRANKLIN COUNTY, etc. It was located on the Gasconade River in what is now Osage County. The origin of the name could not be determined.
